Recording Costs
Cost is always an emotive subject, although, of course, we try for it not to be so.
Every music project is very different; some are straightforward and work within a take or two, and some are complex, requiring many takes and many studio hours of fine-tuning.
Preparedness and skill levels of singers and musicians are also significant factors.
We need to talk it through to give you an accurate guide on the likely cost of a recording project.
Meanwhile, here are two basic options for you to consider.
Ad Hoc
This is where you pay by the hour for time used. The hourly rate is determined by the overall anticipated time required. Sessions of many days or weeks attract a lower rate. Having discussed your project, I will confirm the hourly rate.
Session musicians are extra to this.
Project
This is where we discuss the scope of your recording project and work out what is involved in completing it. We then agree on a budget for the work. This approach requires that I have a role as a producer to have greater control over the time spent on the various aspects of the process. This is the best way to proceed if you are applying for a fixed-cost grant.
Payment
The law states that the 'goods', e.g. the actual recording (that does NOT include the intellectual content or copyright to the song), belongs to the studio until such time as full payment has been received.
Assistance
I'm always happy to discuss a project you plan on applying for a grant to complete.
I will create a written quote of realistic costs and other paperwork as required for the application, free of charge.

As the drummer with Yothu Yindi' for 29 years, I have recorded in major studios the World over, but I never feel as comfortable as when I'm recording at Pegasus in my own home town of Cairns.
Nigel's lifetime of audio engineering means he always gets a great sound on my kit and his production guidance is the surest way to the best result.

I met Nigel Pegrum in the early 1990's and the idea of recording locally in Cairns Qld was highly appealing. This cemented our long-standing recording friendship together.
Our association has endured for over 30 yrs and I have recorded over 25 albums along with singles, voice overs and many other musician's albums.
I have never ventured anywhere else to record my ever evolving projects and music that I am involved in and hope that there will be many more recording occasions to come out of Pegasus Studios.

We recorded our first album at Pegasus in 2011. Working with Nigel was such a fun and easy experience, his honesty and understanding in our working relationship and production guidance created an album that truly captured our sound.
We then went on to record another 3 albums with Nigel, the latest receiving Golden Guitar and QLD Music Award Nominations.
Even though we now live 1500km's apart, we will absolutely return to Pegasus Studios for our next recordings!

Recording with Nigel is always such a lovely experience. He understands my style and transforms my songs from simple guitar/vocals into beautiful arrangements.
All of the little additions he adds into the mix perfectly complement the songs. All of the parts neatly sit together without making things sound overproduced or tacky.
I couldn't be happier with the final mixes and would highly recommend Nigel to any fellow musicians looking for great quality recording.
